Question: What lives in wood, causes headaches,
  and delays your export shipments?

Answer:

Alert: Export Packaging Information

If you are exporting, the following questions should be reviewed immediately to determine if the changes to the export of Solid Wood Packaging starting the end of January 2001 apply to your company.

  • Do you utilize wooden pallets, boxes, crates, containers, & specialty crating while exporting your products outside of Canada or the USA ?
  • Do you have customers that you know ship your products, using your packaging, offshore from Canadian and or USA ports ?
  • Do you have customers that have asked you to meet the requirements to transport pallets, boxes, crates, containers when exporting merchandise to EU, South America, Asia Australia or New Zealand ?
If you answered yes to any of these questions you should know, that starting the end of January 2001, most countries in the world are expected to impose emergency phytosanitary regulations on solid coniferous wood packing materials from North America.

What is required to Export on Wood Packaging:

  • Under this regulation solid coniferous wood packing materials from North America must be kiln dried or chemically impregnated using a preservative and it must also be free of bark, insect holes, living insects and nematodes.
  • And pallets, boxes, crates, containers and specialty crating be marked with the correct documentation that meets all international requirements
  • Documentation is required certifying that the shipping materials used are acceptable. In addition to documenting everything in your shipment, you now have to document what it's on. Further subjecting your shipment to the whims of the inspection authorities.
  • Under the wood packing materials regulation from North America, custom inspectors will look for signed statements on the business letterhead of both the pallet provider and the pallet user.

REASONS TO USE: WIRE MESH EXPORT PALLETS

  • Let the benefits of a wire mesh pallet work for you. The advantages of wire mesh pallets go beyond preventing infestation.
  • NO documentation is required certifying that the shipping materials used are acceptable. Further subjecting your shipment to the whims of the inspection authorities.
  • Wire mesh pallets provide consistent shipping units both in dimension and weight.
  • Wire mesh pallet construction helps to guarantee your merchandise remain safe from nails, splinters or collapsed boards.
  • Wire mesh pallets also eliminates moisture damage that may occur with wood.
  • Exporters have enough to worry about when preparing an overseas delivery.
  • By using wire mesh pallets you can eliminate a number of problems, and at the same time provide your customer with a reusable, environmentally responsible pallet.
  • Heat treated or fumigated wood pallets can cost up to $14.00 a piece.
  • Why not make your job easier and let wire mesh pallets give you peace of mind.

NOTE:

If you do not instruct your export packager of the final destination of your product you take a gamble dispatching product off-shore without the correct documentation that meets all international requirements. If your export pallets, boxes, crates, containers, and specialty crating does not follow the new International Standard for Solid Wood Packing Material, your product, on landing, could be destroyed, or cross-docked forcing it to adhere to the new regulation.

You or your customer will then be sent a large invoice from the country of import for services rendered, due to non-compliance to the new International Standard for Solid Wood Packing Material. You cannot afford not to comply with this change in regulations.
